Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that the situation on the front of the war with Russia is the best in three months, with the advance of Moscow’s troops interrupted after they captured the eastern city of Avdiivka last month.
Zelenskiy said in an interview with French television broadcaster BFM that Ukraine had improved its strategic position despite arms scarcity but suggested that the situation could change without new supplies.
“The situation is much better than it has been in the last three months,” Zelenskiy said in comments expressed in French.
“We had some difficulties due to the shortage of artillery shells, an aerial blockade, long-range Russian weapons, and the high intensity of Russian drone attacks.”
“We work very efficiently… against Russian aviation. We recovered from our situation in the east. The advance of Russian troops has been stopped,” he said.
The capture of Avdiivka by Kremlin forces gave room for maneuvering for the defense of the Russian-controlled regional center of Donetsk, 20 km east.
